MOM TRIBE
Motherhood can be an isolating experience, despite being surrounded by little ones all day. Building a supportive community, or "mom tribe," can provide much-needed emotional support, practical help, and a sense of belonging.
Having a strong support network of friends can SIGNIFICANTLY impact your well-being as a mother. Dare I say this is one of the most important aspects?! Here are some of the key benefits
Emotional Support: Sharing your experiences with other moms who understand can help you feel less alone and more validated in your feelings. Also can we just talk about the power of spending 2 hours with a friend and a glass of wine!? I always leave feeling rejuvenated, seen, heard and understood. It’s my favorite way to care for myself.
Practical help: a supportive community can offer practical assistance, such as babysitting swaps, meal sharing, or carpooling.
Shared knowledge: You will never get better advice than a mom whose been through the deep struggles of motherhood. They see you, they understand you and they want to help! Will their tips work for your child? Maybe… but the connection of communicating valuable insights and solutions is powerful in feeling connected.
Social interaction: Regular interactions with other adults can boost your mood and provide a break from the daily demands of motherhood. THIS can be as easy as stopping and talking to someone you know at target versus steering clear and hiding in another aisle. (I KNOW YA’LL HAVE DONE THIS).
TIPS FOR NURTURING YOUR MOM TRIBE
Once you’ve started building your mom tribe, it’s important to nurture these relationships to create a strong, supportive community.
genuine & open: authenticity is key to building meaningful connections. Share your experiences, challenges and joys honestly. NO ONE connects with someone whose always got their shit together.
offer support: be there for other moms by offering a listening ear, practical help or emotional support. Its all about give and take.
stay connected: Regulation communication is important for maintaining relationships. But like, lets be real, we are all moms so “regular” can fit to whatever your schedule is at the moment. Someone who is there for the right reasons will understand your busy seasons and support you in ways that BENEFITS your life. I want to make this so clear, relationships in momhood are there for mutual benefit. If it is causing increased stress, overwhelm or worry: THIS IS NOT A FRIENDSHIP FOR YOU.
respect differences: every mom’s journey is unique to them. respecting and appreciating the different parenting styles and experiences within your group can create a more inclusive and supportive environment. It’s OK if one friend has a strict nap time routine and another goes with the flow. Truly, it’s ok.
Creating a supportive mom tribe is essential for navigating the challenges and joys of motherhood. By joining local groups, prioritizing friendships, engaging in online communities, and nurturing these relationships, you can build a strong support network that enhances your well-being and enriches your parenting journey. Remember, you are not alone—there is a community of moms ready to support and uplift you. Embrace the power of connection and create your mom tribe today.
